Fun compilation! Had read some but not others。 Three blind mice was esp creepy。 I like to think of Mr。 Parker Pine as Christie's Miss Piggle Wiggle。 Fun compilation! Enjoyable even though some of them have been in other short story collections that I have read。 Recommended to the normal crew。

Thoroughly enjoyable collection with Poirot, Marple and others represented among the many tales。 Some may find it dated but I found that to be part of the charm。 (cultural insensitivity excluded, be ready for that) I am always amazed by how easily Christie can get you to picture details about her characters so quickly in the prose。

Pretty good, though some stories were less engaging, and most of them could have taken place at any time of year; there was nothing very Wintery about most of them。

A lovely collection of twelve winter themed short stories by Agatha Christie。 This collection had some familiar faces — Poirot, Miss。 Marple, Tommy and Tuppence — as well as some new characters — Parker Pyne, Mr。 Satterthwaite and Harley Quin — that I haven’t come across before。 As with any collection of short stories, the quality varies, and I liked some better than others。 Overall my favourites were “Three blind mice” and “A Christmas adventure”。 My least favourite has got to be "The Manhood o A lovely collection of twelve winter themed short stories by Agatha Christie。 This collection had some familiar faces — Poirot, Miss。 Marple, Tommy and Tuppence — as well as some new characters — Parker Pyne, Mr。 Satterthwaite and Harley Quin — that I haven’t come across before。 As with any collection of short stories, the quality varies, and I liked some better than others。 Overall my favourites were “Three blind mice” and “A Christmas adventure”。 My least favourite has got to be "The Manhood of Edward Robinson", which felt really out of place in this collection。 Three blind mice - 4 starsLoved the pace and atmosphere of this story, it kept me guessing till the end! The Chocolate box (Poirot) - 3 stars A Christmas tragedy (Miss。 Marple) - 3 stars The Coming of Mr Quin (Mr。 Harley Quin) - 2 starsThis was my first time reading a Mr。 Quin story, his character added an almost supernatural element to the mystery which I liked and haven't seen in Christie's work before。 The Clergyman’s Daughter (Tommy and Tuppence) - 2 starsI’m not the biggest fan of Tommy and Tuppence but this one was a nice lighthearted—and fairly predictable—mystery。 The Plymouth Express (Poirot) - 2 stars Problem at Pollensa Bay (Parker Pyne) - 2 stars Sanctuary (Miss。 Marple) - 3 stars The Mystery of Hunter’s Lodge (Poirot) - 2 stars The World’s End (Mr。 Harley Quin) - 4 stars The Manhood of Edward Robinson - 2 starsMan lacks the ability to communicate his misgivings to his fiancée, has a quarter life crises and buys a fancy sports car, then gets caught up in jewellery heist?? I just couldn't connect with this one。 A Christmas Adventure (Poirot) - 4 starsAs always, Christie’s stories — even the predicable ones — are a pleasure to read and this collection is perfect for anyone looking to curl up with a cozy mystery! 。。。more

I enjoy reading Christie and Midwinter Murder: Fireside Tales from the Queen of Mystery is a fun distraction。 I prefer novels, but short stories are good as well。

This was a lovely listen, although judging from other reviews the supposed unabridged audiobook I listened to contained 3 less stories than it should! However, the ones I listened to, bar the final Problem at Pollensa Bay were delightful。 Some I recognised from TV adaptations, some were new and interesting。 Pollensa however was terrible, and the collection lost a star because of it。

Featuring some of Agatha Christie's much-loved characters, Midwinter Murder was a delightful collection of short murder mystery stories that got me sleuthing and solving throughout。It's a great novel to curl up with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a blanket as winter creeps away。Much like Agatha Christie's novels, each of these short stories had so much suspense and mystery that I couldn't for the life of me work out the identity of the murderer until it was revealed。Christie's writing is just s Featuring some of Agatha Christie's much-loved characters, Midwinter Murder was a delightful collection of short murder mystery stories that got me sleuthing and solving throughout。It's a great novel to curl up with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a blanket as winter creeps away。Much like Agatha Christie's novels, each of these short stories had so much suspense and mystery that I couldn't for the life of me work out the identity of the murderer until it was revealed。Christie's writing is just so clever in each of the twelve short stories in this collection。 She introduces an array of characters, surrounds them with suspense and creates a motive for each of them and then ties the mystery up in a neat little bow within the space of twenty pages。 Each time I read something from Christie, I wonder how brilliant and twisted her mind must have been to write such intricate, detailed and mystical crimes。 She never ceases to amaze me。 I love this collection as it includes stories that were originally published in magazines in the UK and never officially published in a book or overseas。This lovely collection from the Queen of Crime is classic, cosy and charming。 I would highly recommend Midwinter Murder to a newcomer of Christie's stories as an introduction to her characters and writing。 Completed on: 25th September 2021 。。。more

This is a perfectly lovely collection of various stories by Agatha Christie including a wide swathe of her detectives。 There were a few stories that I didn't quite get the winter connection but。。。 eh。 From a wide swath of her series, her detectives include Tommy and Tuppence, Mr。 Satterthwaite and Harley Quinn (two stories!), Mr。 Parker Pyne, Hercule Poirot, and Jane Marple。 It also includes the short story version of the longest running play of all time, "Three Blind Mice。" If you've never read This is a perfectly lovely collection of various stories by Agatha Christie including a wide swathe of her detectives。 There were a few stories that I didn't quite get the winter connection but。。。 eh。 From a wide swath of her series, her detectives include Tommy and Tuppence, Mr。 Satterthwaite and Harley Quinn (two stories!), Mr。 Parker Pyne, Hercule Poirot, and Jane Marple。 It also includes the short story version of the longest running play of all time, "Three Blind Mice。" If you've never read Christie, these are some of her best stories and give you a glimpse into many different series。 If you have read Christie, these stories are old friends and remind you why she is often called the Queen of Mystery。 。。。more

This is a collection of short stories, some of which take place during the Christmas season。 They are not holiday stories as such, just short mysteries with a holiday reference or two that could have been set any time of year without it affecting the plots。 I was slightly disappointed by that, but I find Agatha Christie's writing an absolute delight to read anytime so I did enjoy it。 She has a light touch, even with murder and mayhem at hand, that I find irresistible。 I'm not a short story fan, This is a collection of short stories, some of which take place during the Christmas season。 They are not holiday stories as such, just short mysteries with a holiday reference or two that could have been set any time of year without it affecting the plots。 I was slightly disappointed by that, but I find Agatha Christie's writing an absolute delight to read anytime so I did enjoy it。 She has a light touch, even with murder and mayhem at hand, that I find irresistible。 I'm not a short story fan, but I'd read more of hers。 。。。more

I know it's too soon to be giving winter/Christmas themed book recs, but this very pretty book has been in my shelf for 9 long months and it was time now to get it out。😅Imagine you're sitting on a cosy armchair by the fireplace。 A warm blanket is wrapped around you。 It's snowing outside, but inside it's pleasantly warm。 There's a mug of hot chocolate (or any warm drink of your choice) in your one hand and a book in the other。 If there's one book that perfectly fits into this scenario, then it's I know it's too soon to be giving winter/Christmas themed book recs, but this very pretty book has been in my shelf for 9 long months and it was time now to get it out。😅Imagine you're sitting on a cosy armchair by the fireplace。 A warm blanket is wrapped around you。 It's snowing outside, but inside it's pleasantly warm。 There's a mug of hot chocolate (or any warm drink of your choice) in your one hand and a book in the other。 If there's one book that perfectly fits into this scenario, then it's Midwinter Murder by the queen of crime, Agatha Christie。 Now, I was reading it on my bed in all those weird positions that readers read in and complain of a body ache the next day。 I had no hot chocolate but an occasional cup of coffee and it never snows where I stay。 But nevertheless, I imagined myself in the above scenario and had a swell time!I realise now that this has been more of me scribbling my winter fantasy than a book review。 So just for the sake of maintaining the facade, I'll recommend you two of my favorite stories from this collection, that is, A Christmas Tragedy (Miss Marple) and The Chocolate Box (Hercule Poirot)。Come this winter, make sure you get your hands on this book。 It'll make those cold wintry nights, a little more bearable。 。。。more

This is a very entertaining book from the queen of mystery。 I hadn't even known she ever wrote short stories! Many of these are the classic type of closed-room mysteries, with all the suspects snowed in under one roof。 We get to see both Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple at work, along with several others such as Parker Pyne。 The short story is a good vehicle for a little mystery, and the reader can predict many of the outcomes but never every plot twist! Short storiesNot a lover of short stories but I thoroughly enjoyed these。 Most I’d read before or seen a tv adaptation but they came out fresh。 Trying to spot the clues is always the game with Mrs Christie

Nikki

Agatha Christie is enjoyable, even though her books are older and many would see them as classics。 Murder and mystery is always present, at least today in my modern day。 This edition of her work brings together tales of murder and mystery set in the winter time。 Some of her most famous character sleuths are featured and there are plenty of mysteries to keep the reader entertained。

I liked that these were short stories, I enjoyed the plot of each one very much! Agatha Christie definitely came up with very brilliant stories to tell! The writing style isn't my preference - I think since they were written a long time ago, the language used and how things were done, just isn't the genre I enjoy the most。 I did like that they were very clean reads - no bad words, no sex scenes - just great stories。 If you enjoy Agatha Christie (or books written a while back), I would definitely I liked that these were short stories, I enjoyed the plot of each one very much!
